Eight hospitals, 1,618 people personnel, 450 patients, hundreds of appointments and dozens of surgeries are being relocated, re-disposed and postponed in the context of “restructuring” Greece’s public hospitals system ESY.
In an action that is expected to conclude in 25 days, hospitals are being evacuated, patients transferred and surgeries postponed. The action with the name “Demokides” is taking place in Athens and Thessaloniki, where 1,618 hospital personnel goes into ‘mobility’ and eight hospitals turn into daily health centers.
Eight coordinators accurately record the number of patients per hospital and organize their transfer to other facilities per ambulance.
The hospitals concerned are the Polycliniki, Amalia Fleming, Agia Varvara, Patision Clinic and Spilopoulio in Athens and Panagia, Infectious Diseases, and Venereal and Skin Diseases in Thessaloniki.
Dimokides was a physician of the 6 century B.C. who had the ambitious plan to reconstruct the health system in Ancient Athens. (sources: iatropedia, protothema)
PS I really do not know, why some people have reservations about the ambitions plan of restructuring and reconstructing the health care system of Modern Greece. Maybe because people wait at least 6 weeks for an appointment with a public health care doctor or several months for a surgery appointment?
These are clinics Polyclinic, Amalia Fleming Patission, Agia Varvara, Spiliopoulio (Attica), Infectious Diseases, Venereal and Skin Diseases and “Panagia” (Thessaloniki).
