The news started to make the rounds on Greek internet on Wednesday evening. That the (alleged) driver of Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos was arrested in the broader Piraeus area for illegal possession of weapons. The police had acted on an anonymous tip off.
Last winter the man had applied for a firearms license claiming he was working as driver and bodyguards of Michaloliakos. His application was rejected.
“A 26-year-old man who allegedly worked as a driver and bodyguard for Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos was arrested at his home in Athens on Thursday.
Police said they acted on a tip off and found a stiletto knife, two smoke bombs and an air gin at the unnamed man’s property.
According to reports, the suspect had applied for a firearms license earlier this year but his request was rejected. He had claimed in his application that he worked for Michaloliakos.” (ekathimerini)
According to ProtoThema, the man claimed also to be a member of Golden Dawn.
The police did not name the man.
PS “anonymous tip off”? Are there indeed internal conflicts within the extreme-right party as it has been claimed in the Greek media from time to time?
