Greek media report of an imminent government reshuffle expected to take place next on Thursday… or on… Friday or next week… maybe on Monday… Even though traditionally government reshuffles are not being announced in advance, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras gave a hint in this direction right after the EU elections on May 28th.
Why does Samaras want to reshuffle the government? Apparently in order to give the image of a more “social” cabinet that will carry on a more social policy and not so strictly austerity. That’s the official position.
In the heart of the reshuffle is the future of Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras. “Reshuffle without changing the finance minister is not possible,” media write stressing that it would make no sense.
As if Stournaras or health minister Georgiadis or the XY minister has been applying his own economic policy all these last two years and not in close cooperation with Samaras and the Troika…
According to leakages to the press, some ministers will simply change ministry and some will be just remove.
As both coalition government parties, Nea Dimokratia and PASOK, have rather run out of A-class party officials and MPs capable to be assigned to ministerial posts, there is talk that some one -or two – personalities may come from the center-left of the political spectrum.
PS Oh the Greek center-left! Defeated PASOK and almost-exterminated Democratic Left try to revive the center-left making direct or indirect calls to To Potami and SYRIZA.
No worries! With former PASOK members having infiltrating SYRIZA, DemLeft and ToPotami there will never be a party or a government in Greece without a PASOK ex-member.
