“I have learned to live even on 1,500 euro!” Nea Dimokratia MP Maria Antoniou made a “historic” statement on a local television network apparently in an effort to demonstrate that even our elected members of the Parliament know very well what is “austerity.”
“I am not rich… I have learned to live even on 1,500 euro per month,” the lawmaker from Kastoria, Northern Greece, told local “Flash TV” and program “Rush Hour”.

Antoniou’s economic sacrifice was not welcome with enthusiasm by the crisis- , austerity- and unemployment-hit public.
I suppose it was the thousands of low-pensioners of 600-euro income and the hundred-thousands of 300- and 500-euro workers commented in a language I do not dare copy paste here in this blog. I also assume, they were all trying to tell her that she could live even on much less…
For the record: Greek MPs earn 8,000 euro per month, have several extra bonuses to cover office and travel expenses and tax only a part of their income. That’s why they live on another planet and in rosy atmospheric levels.
