Outrage in Greece as ND MP seeks to gain xenophobic votes out of Charlie Hebdo massacre

Acting Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and deputy PM and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos expressed their deep abhorrence and outrage to the massacre of 12 people at the office of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo by unknown gunmen Wednesday morning in Paris.

But some Greek politicians, known for their far-right and xenophobic believes and populism rushed to gain voters for the conservative Nea Dimokratia. Former Health Minister and ex Samaras’ government spokesman but still MP Adonis Georgiadis rushed to use the attack for political gains, make connection to pre-election campaign, defend Samaras’xenophophic policies of blocking all migrants, war refugees incl, out of Greece and -… what else?- attack left-wing SYRIZA.

translation: “The attack in Paris may prove for Europe the end of innocence with Islam. These of SYRIZA here say borders should be open [to migrants].”

A storm broke up on Greek social media, with many users called Georgiadis’ remark and connection to pre-election campaign “despicable” and “a shame”.

Georgiadis equates radical islamists with civilian refugees. [Makes a word game in Greek with Golden Dawn and Goat in the sense of rude and uneducated]

“Aren’t you ashamed to do opposition to SYRIZA over the bodies of innocent? Nice political ethics. Just a mean soul.”

Newspaper Efimerida twn Syntakwn commented that he does “low level political speculation spreads intolerance while the blood of journalists flows in Paris.”

News website Left.gr described Georgiadis statement as “Crescent of misanthropy.” Left.gr has also a screen shot of a Tweet uploaded by a close aide of Antonis Samaras.

Author Nikos Agos “When far-right crows seeks for votes even inside blood. Shame on you, forever.”

At least two gunmen – most likely three according to latest information – attacked the offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday morning killing 12 people and injuring 10 – five are in critical condition.Among the dead is one policeman and four famous French caricaturists Cabu, Charb, Tignous and Wolinski. The satirical magazine published a Prophet Mohammed cartoon in 2011.

Local and international media suspect that the gunmen were radical islamists.

PS the world is in shock and awe, millions express solidarity with press freedom and Greek politicians are unable to remove their blinds but in contrary they try to capitalize for the shake of votes… What a shame!
