Tsipras promises “just taxation, hikes in low pensions & minimum wages” and more…

“Greece will take a deep breath on Sunday. And on Monday the country will change page with the strong order from the people,” Alexis Tsipras said on Tuesday speaking in Thessaloniki on Tuesday evening. He added that “the people with their votes will put an end to the devastating policies  of the last five years.”

He announced the program of SYRIZA and among others made six promises about what a SYRIZA-led government will do.

Struggle to change the course of Greece in Europe.

Guarantee for bank deposits. Descent pensions. Guarantee of subsidies for farmers.

End to auctions of the “residence home”

Just taxation. Tax -free annual income at €12,000. Abolition of the Unified Property Tax (ENFIA) and its replacement with Tax of Big Real Estate ownership (FAP)

End of intermingling relations

Dealing with the humanitarian crisis.

Tsipras warned that only “smugglers, tax evaders and those filling the Lagarde list” should be afraid of the taxation system and added that they “do not have a magic stick to bring back within days all what the others have destroyed,” and that they “do not promise automatic and magical solutions.”

Further, he noted “the things that have to be done” were:

Return of the 13th pension for pensions below €700 monthly.

Raise of the minimum wage from €580 gross to €751 and restoring the collective bargains.

Tax-free annual income of €12,000 for all. (source)

Alexis Tsipras stressed that his program is independent from “external financing” and that’s why it will be able to materialize. Most possible Tsipras is considering to use Samaras’ primary surpluses.

Main slogan of SYRIZA is “Hope is coming.” Therefore it’s logical that his promises appeal to the sentiment  of millions of voters crushed and smashed by the economic crisis.

I don’t know if SYRIZA will be able to meet all the promises, but we keep them for the records. It’s always good to have a list of political parties pre-elections promises and then compare with the “check list.” 🙂
