Swiss Banker J-C Oswald wanted for arms scandals & money laundering in Greek custody

Swiss banker Jean-Claude Oswald, one of the key suspects in the Siemens cash-for-contracts scandal and in connection to allegedly corrupt arms deals is in custody in Greece, Greek media report on Monday.

Although Oswald holds the French citizenship and the Swiss refused to extradite him to Greece, the Greek authorities managed to arrest him on a European warrant in a transit area in Abu Dhabi. The banker was secretly transferred to Athens where he will face the prosecutor over the next few days and address the charges against him.

According to reports, Oswald appears to have cooperated with at least two Greeks (Lyginos, Mavridis) and laundered the money of bribes handed out in various armament deals (incl Siemens scandal, Ebrae, Ericson, WEGMANN), via Swiss banks and off-shores in tax heavens.

The authorities expect to extract important information from the banker, as he appears to be aware of state officials who received bribes.

Jean-Claude Oswald is a former executive at BNP Paribas and Dresdner Bank.
