Veteran politician of the Greek Left and WWII resistance fighter Manolis Glezos, 92, has reportedly submitted his resignation to the European Parliament. In a statement uploaded in his Movement of Active Citizens website, Glezos said that he is resigning from the EP and that his resignation will come into forces as of July 8th 2015.
Right after his election in 2014, Manolis Glezos had announced that he would hold the mandate for one year only.
He had said that does not use airplanes and he was concerned about the many traveling between Athens and Brussels.
He will be replaced by Yiannis Millios, 62, Professor of Political Economy and the History of Economic Thought at the Athens University. Chief economic adviser at SYRIZA until March 2015.
