Greek Minister for Migration: “Some Jihadists are among the refugees”

“Some Jihadists have entered Europe along with the waves of refugees,” Greek interim Minister for Migration Policy, Yannis Mouzalas said on Monday.

To a relevant question by private Star TV, Mouzalas replied that “It would be foolish to say No” and added: “I think that the secret services of European countries confirm that a small number has most likely come to Europe.”

However, according to Mouzalas, this is not where the problem lies. “They [European countries] have many European jihadists. Here happens the opposite: they leave from here and go there.”

Mouzalas stressed that 60% of the refugees in Greece belong to Syrian middle classes, people who have fled Syria out of fear of the jihadists, that 20% come from Afghanistan and that 15-20% are so-called “migrants without papers.”

Jihadists posing as refugees seem to worry the Europeans, and  Spanish Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz warned of the danger and asked on Monday to strengthen control measures among asylum seekers fleeing from Syria, as it is feared that members of the Islamic State have infiltrated the waves of refugees.

“The vast majority are refugees fleeing from the war, but we can not forget that down there there is the Islamic state and that these barbarians have shown that they are able to realize their threats,” Diaz noted.

I wonder how authorities, border controllers and refugees & migrations registration centers can identify Jihadists…

  1. There is no way to address this issue in managing mass refugee flows. The point is for authorities to be aware of it, and ready to deal with its consequences — which will impact countries of settlement, rather than Greece.
I do not find it particularly helpful for the media to dwell on this. Its only likely outcome is for the public to start to become hostile to refugee flows from Islamic countries — which is all of the flows, more or less.

  2. This is what I have been saying all along we need to be careful because the terrorists are using innocent people to infiltrate our countries. We all need to be aware and vigilant!
