World Animal Day: 3-4 million stray cats and dogs estimated in Greece

We hugged with special love our pets today. Some of us may have given them an extra treat on the occasion of the World Animal Day celebrated on October 4th – international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of all animals. Yes, on this day we remember all animals especially those who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge. We pay tribute to all the people who love and respect all animals. Forever.

I was shocked today to hear on Greek television on the occasion of the day, the incredible number of stray dogs and cats living in Greece: members of animal welfare organizations said that they estimate the number is “between 3 and 4 million stray cats and dogs.” Mainly dogs, mainly abandoned due to the economic crisis.

So, when you finish hugging your pet today, go down to the streets and put of food and water. That’s the least you can do 🙂
