Greek General Secretariat of Public Revenues calls on debtors to go settle their debts or they will see their money disappear from their bank accounts. The mercy period for “confiscations” that was imposed due to capital controls is over and the GSPR officials will now just grab money from deposit accounts.
Protected form the long arm of the tax office are bank accounts that have been been declared by the owner as “pension- or salary-account” and thus for the amount of 1,250 euro per month.
If the debt is let’s say 4,000 euro and the salary is 1,500 euro the tax office will grab each month 250 euro until the debt has been paid back.
The GSPR calls on debtors to go make a settlement of 24 installments and start paying.
The relevant statement issued by the GSPR does not clarify by which debt amount the confiscation will start.
PS One more reason for Greeks to return their money from ‘under the mattress’ to the bank :p
