Greek police have arrested a foreign national with dual citizenship over allegations of being an arms dealer. According to Greek media, the 49-year-old man was about “to strike a deal about for the purchase of a large amount of weapons” when authorities intervene in Aspropyrgos area on Western Attica. “the weapons were not to be used in Greece,” some media report.
It has not been revealed where the weapons were to be used for and if representatives of other countries were involved in the purchase.
The man has reportedly US and Jordan citizenship and he was wanted by the US authorities over illegal arms trade and money laundering. The arrested on Tuesday morning was the result of successful cooperation between the CIA and the Greek authorities. He had arrived in Athens two days earlier and he was staying in a central hotel.
It was not not the first time that the man had visited Greece and he has been allegedly considered as one of the main weapon suppliers for the Hezbollah. (sources: newsit.gr, protothema.gr)
And who was he buying the arms from?!
Strangely, this trivial little detail does not appear in press reports. Could it be that foreign powers are involved in selling arms? Surely not!
