UPD1 Angelina Jolie skips Lesvos, will just visit refugees in Idomeni

Hollywood star and Good Will Ambassador and Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Angelina Jolie is expected to land on the Greek island of Lesvos on Tuesday evening and visit the refugees stranded there.

According to local media Lesvospost.com, the private Lear Jet carrying Jolie and a camera crew has asked permission to land on the island airport at 8 p.m. The Lear jet is to come from Lebanon.

On Wednesday morning, Jolie and her team will visit Skala Sykamias, Moria and Kara-Tepe where some 5,000 refugees stay in provisional camps and to see first hand their living conditions. She will leave Lesvos later on Wednesday.

UPDATE: the landing of Jolie has been postponed, she is expected to arrive on Lesvos tomorrow – Wednesday morning – and to visit also the camp in Idomeni.

UPDATE1:  Angelina Jolie has skipped Lesvos from her program and will visit only refugees in Idomeni camp. Greek media report this morning that the change occurs due to some ‘technical issues’ with her flight schedule. She is expected to land in Thessaloniki at 12 noon. She will be accompanied also by some staff of the Migration Ministry.

In her role as Good Will Ambassador, Angelina Jolie has already visited refugee camps in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and Syria.

Angelina Jolie visits the refugee camps on the anniversary of the 5th year of war in Syria that has cost the life to 13,500 children and more than 7,000 women.

Other Hollywood stars like Susan Sarrandon have visited the refugees on Lesvos to draw attention to the Refugee Crisis and the plight of more than a million war refugees.
