Google celebrates 120th Anniversary of modern Olympic Games: 6. April 1896

Google Doodle celebrates 120 years after the revival of Ancient Olympic Games in Greece. Historic date: 6. April 1896.

The modern Olympic Games were inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement, with the Olympic Charter defining its structure and authority.

Google marked the 120th anniversary of the first modern Olympic Games with its latest sporting doodle.

The doodle – four versions designed by Olivia Huynh, each featuring a different event from the Games – honors the 1896 Games of the I Olympiad in Athens, which involved nine sports in the Panathenaic Stadium.

Two-hundred-and-forty-one men, representing 14 countries, competed in a total of 43 events, in tennis, fencing, weightlifting, track and field, cycling, shooting, swimming, wrestling and gymnastics.

Google is stooopid: The 12 Olympic Apostles spread the word that original Olympic Games were just more fun in the more developed world of ancient times, doping was allowed and the huge majority was atheist.

  2. What you may not know, is that the idea of the new olympic games was originally that they should remain in Athens. The Frenchman Coubertin was determined to turn them into international commercial games — as we see now — despite the fact that the 1901 Games in Paris were a flop, and both the 1896 and 1906 Games in Athens were a great success. Now, the IOC has renamed the 1906 Games as “intercalated games” and not proper olympics: the fact is, that the success of the 1906 Games after the French flop is what determined their continuation.

In all of this, you can see how Europe has always fucked Greece — taking things of value, and giving shit back. That’s how they also ran their colonies, by the way…
