Survey: 6:10 Greeks want Government to “kick the IMF out” of Greece’s program

The majority of Greek society has a negative stance about the International Monetary Fund and believes that the IMF is blackmailing the Greek government.” According to a public opinion poll conducted by Palmos Analysis for daily Efimerida ton Syntakton, the majority of Greeks want in fact that the IMF to leave Greece. The findings show that respondents ask the government to not accept new austerity measures and perceive the IMF as having a “coercive policy” towards Greece.

In the poll conducted nationwide between 6-8 April 2016:

79% of respondents consider that the role of the IMF towards Greece is negative. 65% of these respondents are New Democracy voters.

78% say that “the IMF blackmails the Greek government to take tougher measures – again 65% of them are ND voters.

63% believe that the Greek government should request the removal of the IMF from the Greek program. Especially, ND voters, 44%,believe that the government should request the removal of the IMF, while the opposite view is 42%.

77% say “the government should not accept any measures beyond last summer’s agreement” with ESM/EU/ECB.

About the issue that arose with the revelations of Wikileaks that exposed the conversation between two IMF officials

44% of respondents said that the most important aspect are the revelations and not who did the phone bugging.

21% said that “emphasis should be given on who did the bugging and not the content of WikiLeaks.”

Note: New Democracy reacted to WikiLeaks revelations on April 2nd, with the emphasis on who did the bugging. ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is a supporter of IMF measures.
