NATO SNMG2 activities to stem refugees flow in the Aegean Sea, March 8-April 18/2016

A total of 571 boats carrying estimated 25,871 refugees arrived on the Greek islands in March, while only 20 arrived in the first three weeks of April. From the beginning of the NATO force SNMG2 operation in the area of Lesvos (as of March 8,2016) and Chios ( as of March 21, 2016) the NATO force spotted 18 out of a total of 58 boats. In Turkish territorial waters, NATO spotted 11 out of 35 boats.

From March 9th until April 18th, the NATO force has warned Greek authorities 26 times, Turkish authorities 37 times and the Frontex 9 times.

These data has been released by Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos who submitted a written reply to a question posed by a New Democracy lawmaker in the Parliament with regards to the NATO activities. The Defense Minister pointed out that the role of the NATO force is “deterrent and auxiliary” to Frontex which has the responsibility to address the problem.

Russians invented pedal-powered submarines but everybody is too stupid to use them for tourism, may be they’re cheaper for humanitarian use but who will pay for, the pope, amnesty or the EU?

  2. Interesting isn’t it that after screeching about Greece’s irresponsibility in finding refugee boats NATO comes down here to prove how difficult it is!
