“Samos: tension and bickering in the hot spot. 15 people abraded. 8 of them were taken care of, one in hospital”
The clashes occur one night after severe clashes in the detention center of Moria on the island of Lesvos. The hot spot has been destroyed by the fires set by the migrants. Fifteen people were injured.
Irony. In Karlovasi, near the Samos detention center, there is a meeting of Greece’s municipalities body KEDE on Migration. Present also New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis who presented the party’s proposal on how to solve the Refugee & Migration crisis.
KGT, now the greeks should work harder, so as to feed and cloth the refugees, otherwise they will set Greece on fire. Or, alternatively, you can give your lands, businesses, buildings to the refugees so that they work themselves.
Why does Greece of all places have Algerian and Moroccan migrants when the logical point of entry for them is Spain and France? Why do we have Nepalese migrants when they have all of Asia to choose from? Isn’t that a stretch? And why do we continue to receive migrants when all land exits from Greece are shut?
The only possible points of departure from North Africa (owing to the EU arrangements with Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria etc, who stop refugees from leaving by boat for Europe) are Libya and Egypt. More and more are now crossing the Mediterranean (and drowning) as they try to reach Italy, with the Greek route closed. However, many thousands arrived in Greece – not least because Turkey did not require visas from North Africans. I do not think any refugees from North Africa are now arriving via Turkey. Since January, the Greek state was automatically imprisoning North Africans on arrival, and refusing them access to asylum procedures. Given the way these people have been treated by every single country they have encountered, they are doubtless angry, bitter and violent — the most so those who are refugees from war zones and know their legal rights, which are denied them.
