A girl, estimated between 4 and 6 years old, another child, a man and a woman were pulled dead from the sea area east off the island of Lesvos after a boat carrying refugees capsized. The plastic dingy had left the Turkish coast with eleven refugees on board. The shipwreck was located by a Greek Coast Guard boat at 8:30 in the morning. So far, four people were rescued. Search and Rescue operation conducted by Coast Guard, the Frontex and a Super Puma helicopter continues.
North winds were blowing with 4 Beaufort and survivors said that suddenly the boat started to get water and all found themselves in the sea.
Two more boats with refugees and migrants were reportedly located off Lesvos, a total of 90 people were brought on the island.
Arrivals have dramatically increased after the implementation of the EU Turkey Deal in March and the closure of the Balkan borders.
According to UNHCR, arrivals for July 2015 have been 216 so far, with July average to be 31 and June average to have been 50 people.
