Wikileaks: Gov’t source confirms Tsipras-Clinton contact in July 2015

The office of the Greek Prime Minister confirmed the Wikileaks revelations about contact between PM Alexis Tsipras and former US President Bill Clinton in July 2015. Asked by the Athens News Agency, a government source said that was a  contact between Tsipras and Clinton however before the referendum. After the referendum, the contact was only with President Barack Obama.

Wikileaks published hacked e-mails of John Podesta, a Conselor to President Obama, who was asking Bill Clinton to pressure Tsipras on the deal with the European lenders so that the country would remain in the Eurozone.

Clinton’s answer to the request was positive, however he said, he would need more information.

The referendum took place on July 5. 2010, Podesta’s email was sent on July 10th.

Did Obama convince Tsipras directly, after all? Possible. The agreement on the 3.bailout was signed on 13. July 2015.
