A tragic epilogue for the small Cessna airplane that went missing from radar on Sunday afternoon. A patrolling helicopter of the Greek Air Force spotted the plane wreckage some 3km away from the parking lots of the ski resort in Kalavryta in Peloponnese, Monday noon.
One of the victims has been identified as Greek Air Force Captain Sotirios Antonopoulos, 32. He was the pilot – instructor of the small Cessna plane.
Antonopoulos was serving as pilot in Super Puma helicopters in the 384 Search & Rescue Squadron. He was experienced pilot with many flying hours.
The identity of the second passenger has not being disclosed.
The Cesna belonged to Air club of Megara. It disappeared from the radar while in was flying between the mountain area of Kalavryta and Corinth. It took off from Andravitha and its destination was Megara, some 25 km west from Greek capital Athens.
Both victims were found charred.
The reason of the crash is not known yet.
