Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras promised that “Greece will not enact a single euro extra revenue raising measures.” Moreover he said that he was “ready for elections” although early elections would be pointless at this time. Tsipras promise comes as the SYRIZA-INTERDEPENDENT GREEKS prepares to celebrate two years in power, while negotiations for the second evaluation are still ongoing.
In an interview to daily Efimerida Ton Syntakton, Tsipras said on the extra measures the lenders want to be legislated now for after 2018
“We have stated in the most categorical manner that there is no way we will legislate a single euro in addition to the provisions of the [bailout] agreement, how much more for the time period after the end of the program.”
He added “such legislation is against the constitution, against democracy and against the EU acquis. Ultimately, it is not a question of a government, it is a matter of dignity and self-respect of people and a country.”
On International Monetary Fund
“The IMF has to take upfront responsibility for its view of the Greek program. And Europe has to take into account the new situation created by the change of political leadership in the US, and take decisions based on the common interest. No to temporary political calculations that are made for each country separately.”
He said that he took his decisions out of “historical responsibility towards the people and the social classes represented by the Left.”
He stressed that he had not fear of responsibility.
Tsipras message to lenders comes a day before the Eurogroup meeting. Another …crucial Eurogroup meeting…
