The jury in Cannes Film Festival 2017 could not decide to a clear winner for the Best Screenplay. In the end, the Award was shared by two Greeks and a Briton. Giorgos Lanthimos and Efthymis Filipppou won the best screenplay for the Killing of a Sacred Deer.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is 2017 psychological thriller-horror film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, from a screenplay by Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou. It stars Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman.
A prominent surgeon adopts a teenager into his family, but as the teen’s actions grow increasingly sinister, the doctor is forced to make a terrible decision.
It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in the main competition section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
During the release at Cannes, the film received also some negative criticism, including booing by audience.
The Independent spoke of “clinically executed horror.”
Most critics talked about a really scary movie with tough pictures.
Nicole Kidman said about her participation in the film: In this phase of my life and career I want to dare more, to overcome my limits and directors such as Giorgos Lanthimos can push you in this direction.
Many times Lanthimos asks the actors to do nothing, and that is very difficult for an actor.
