Wildfires season: Wildfire rage on several fronts in South-Eastern Attica and on the island of Spetses in the Saronic Gulf. Huge operations under way with firefighters, water dropping aircraft and helicopters.
The fire on one of the most beautiful islands in the Saronic Gulf broke in the area Agioi Anargyroi Tuesday noon. The strong winds have spread the fire into several directions. Thousands of acres have burned down, media report.
There are resident and summer houses in the broader area, no damage has been reported so far.
The mayor of Spetses told media that the fire went through 10to 11 summer houses, however, no damage has been reported.
More than 30 firefighters and two troops on foot with 13 people are battling on the ground.
In operation are also three water dropping aircraft and two helicopters.
They want to combat the wildfire before the night falls.
“If we don’t manage to extinguish the fire by the evening, we will face a very dangerous situation as it will move towards the settlement,” mayor Panagiotis Lyrakis said in the afternoon.
The fire broke out around 12:30. The reason remains unknown. The mayor suspects either arson or spark from a power column. He said that he will file a law suit against unknown defendants.
Black smoke has covered the sky in Ntapia area between the old and the new port.

Two fire fronts in Kavyvia in Sourth-East Attica have been largely taken under control.
