A missing British expat was found dead on Friday afternoon. He had reportedly committed suicide. The 60-year-old man had been living along his British wife in a village of Platanias municipality during the last few years.
The man left his home last Sunday.
Concerned about his disappearance, his wife turned to local police station in the morning and reported him as missing.
Immediately, police launched a search operation that was assisted by fire brigades as well.
Short before 5 o’ clock Friday, one of the firefighters located the missing man. He was hanging from an olive tree in the rural area between Tavronitis and Voukolies.
Police and a forensic judge rush to the scene of the tragedy.
Authorities investigate further, an autopsy is expected to confirm whether the death cause was suicide, as the man was missing since August 27th.
Citing authorities sources, zarpanews.gr reports that although all options are still open, the “first impression is that the man committed suicide.”
According to cretapost.gr, the local community is shocked to hear that one more suicide was committed on the island.
Platanias municipality is located 10 km west form the city of Chania in Northern Crete.
