Winter is rushing to get us in its grip even though the last two days were sunny and bright with south winds. Greece’s meteorologists forecast bad weather ahead with sharp temperature drop, snow even in the mountain areas around Attica, strong winds on the islands and frost in North Greece.

By Tuesday noon, Dec 5 2017, rainfalls are expected in the regions of Western and South Greece and the Eastern Aegean.
By early afternoon, a gradual change of the weather will cause sharp temperature drop and very strong winds.
At the same time, rainfalls will continue in the North-East of the country, in Central and Eastern mainland as well as in Central, East and Southern Aegean, where they will be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Snow
The bad weather front will bring also snow that is expected initially on the mountain of Pindos (Epirus), the mountains of NE Greece as well as of Thessaly, Central Sterea, the Peloponnese and at night also of Crete.
The snow will be locally intense in the mountains of North Peloponnese and Crete.
Snow is expected also to affect low-altitude areas in Thrace as wells as the low mountains of Eastern Macedonia above 400m altitude, the North-East Aegean and the island of Euboea.

Temperature forecast
Sharp temperature drop from North to the South as of Tuesday afternoon and low temperatures during the rest of the week as the bad weather front will continue.
Western Macedonia from -5 to 6 degrees Celsius, in Northern Greece from -2 to 10 degrees, in Central Greece from 0 to 12 degrees, in Epirus from 2 to 15, in Western and Southern Greece from 5 to 16 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 8 to 14 degrees, the islands of the North and North-East Aegean and the Sporades from 6 to 12 degrees.
Wind
Central and North Aegean will blow from northern directions, moderate to strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort, gradual increase of intensity up to 7 Beaufort.
In North Greece, Northwind Vardaris will blow with intensity of up to 8 Beaufort.
Up to 7 and 8 Beaufort, locally also up to 9B also in the South Aegean and the Ionian sea.
Attica and Athens: thick cloudiness as of the afternoon, possibility of rainfalls in the north and western parts of the prefecture.
Light snowfall is expected during the evening and at night in the mountains.
The temperature will range from 9 to 13 degrees, with a gradual sharp drop as from afternoon.
Thessaloniki: strong winds up to 8 Beaufort, significant temperature drop in the evening and frost in certain districts of the city in the evening and in the morning. The winds will blow northwest strong to almost windy and temporarily off the Thermaic windy 8 Beaufort. The temperature in the city will range from 5 to 9 degrees, with a significant fall in the evening. City districts early in the morning and especially in the evening will frost.
According to meteo.gr, the large parts of Greece will remain in the grip of temperature around zero degrees Celsius at least until Saturday, December 9, 2017.
