Gun and bullets stolen as the police guard of ND deputy chairman was…

Τhe gun of the police officer assigned with the safety of New Democracy deputy chairman Kostis Chatzidakis was stolen in downtown Athens, while the police officer was carrying packages to the lawmaker’s office.

According to media, the policeman had left the gun together with thirteen bullets in a small leather bag inside the parked car for a couple of minutes. When he returned, the bag and the content were flown away.

The incident took place around 5 o’ clock Thursday afternoon near Syntagma Square.

The policeman was detained but released on Friday evening upon the prosecutor’s order.

In his testimony he reportedly said he left the gun in the car because he had to transport some packages.

On the occasion of this incident, his colleagues bring to the forefront the good old Greek problem, where police officers are being used as page boys for errands by those who are assigned to safeguard and not just as security guards.
