An Athens prosecutor on Wednesday brought felony bribery charges against two consultants of a joint venture that served as technical advisers for the construction of the Athens metro.
According to athensnewsagency, “the charges were filed against the manager of consulting company OMEK and the head of engineering company Lahmeyer and are aggravated by the law on embezzlement against the State.”
The suspects are accused of having allegedly paid around 210,000 euros in bribes to civil servants between 2003 and 2007 to win the state contract to provide consulting, planning and supervisory services on the Athens metro project.
According to the evidence, the kickbacks appear to have been paid through fake invoices issued by their company, based on Jersey Island. The recipients of the bribes have not been identified yet.
The case was assigned to a corruption investigative judge.
On Thursday, the President of Attiko Metro SA Yannis Mylopoulos said the whole management of the company is at the disposal of the prosecutor, although, the case goes fifteen years back and the current board has assumed office in 2016.
OMEK is a Greek company and Lahmeyer a German.
Bribery?
in the Greek public sector?
Wow, who would have imagined that!
Must be a conspiracy against the country, fake news!
bribery by a German? not possible!
Europeans love bribing third world countries since they are so corrupt .
@Syrizee. The law considers the briber and the recipient to be equally corrupt, so we are obliged to interpret your comment as a statement that Europeans are as corrupt as the Third World. I cannot disagree with your assessment.
