Former SYRIZA finance minister Yanis Varoufakis announced that he will present his political party in Greece in two months from now, on March 26th. The new party will be related to his pan-European movement DiEM25.
Varoufakis made the announcement on Twitter on the occasion of 3 years of his former left-wing comrades in power.
Three years ago today the Greeks decided to rage against the dying of the light. They were betrayed. But never defeated. In two months (26/3) a new DiEM25 affiliated Greek party will come into being. There is no such thing as a final defeat, just as there is no final victory!

Meanwhile, there is talk that other three former SYRIZA officials are considering to join their forces and their small parties ahead of the parliamentary elections of 2019. These are former Parliament Speaker Zoi Konstantopoulou, former Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis and former party leader Alekos Alavanos. The last two have been supporting return to national currency Drachma. Should they join forces, will they find enough voters to pass the 3 percent threshold and enter the Parliament? too early to say, bit for the time being, each one of the party gets around 1%-1.5% in public opinion polls.
Theoretically, if the three agree on a election coalition and have also Varoufakis and one more left-wing party ANTARSYA build a left front they might manage. Practically… one should note that majority of Greek voters love to vote “conservative” in the sense, parties they know and are not up to surprises. They had enough bad surprises in the recent decade.
