Six people infected with the seasonal flu virus have died, three of them within the past week, the Greek Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) announced on Thursday. The patients died from complications after contracting the flu virus.
The youngest victims was 39 years old, the oldest 79.
None of the victims was vaccinated, although all of them belonged to vulnerable groups of the society due to other health issues.
By January 28th, 24 people 16- men and 8 women – had been hospitalized in intensive care units.
According to laboratory tests, the virus types are B and A (H1N1).
KEELPNO urges citizens with chronic health issues to get vaccinated.
In the period 2016-2017, a total of 106 people died in Greece due to the flu.
