Oenorama 2018: Wine Exhibition in downtown Athens, Mar 10-12

The most important wine appointment of Greece for consumers and professionals, Greeks and foreigners. Oenorama, the world’s leading Greek wine exhibition opens its gates to public,  hosting up to 250 wineries with more than 1,600 wines to taste.

Once again, this year’s Oenorama is being held in the city centre, at the Zappeion Megaron Exhibition Hall and Conference Centre, adjacent to the National Gardens, near Syntagma.

  • Zappeion exhibition March 10-12 2018
  • Athens Wine Week: March 12-18 2018

Over the past three years Oenorama we introduced several innovations  including the “Athens Wine Week” (tastings and events around the city, March 12-18), a dedicated hall to “top obscure wines” called “Wine Revelations” and a new self-pour tasting gallery called “Discover Greek Wines”. Last year we added a new, dedicated space for lectures and tasting seminars.

Athens Wine Week is organized by Oenorama. From Monday March 12 to Sunday March 18, restaurants, bottle shops, wine bars, wine producers and wine lovers work together to bring to you events that will allow you to enjoy and taste many different wines in various settings all over Athens. Please see the detailed program of events at www.athenswineweek.gr.

“Wine Revelations” is a “fair-within-a-fair” hosting “top obscure” Greek wines for buyers on the look-out for emerging wines and wineries. Situated in a dedicated hall of Zappeion Megaron, Wine Revelations consists of two parts:

  • Thirty-four stands of new or boutique wineries whose production is a few thousand bottles a year (maximum allowed: 30,000 bottles).
  • A “Wine Bar” with some dozens of wines that are a) either made of varietals not widely known or b) belong to the broader “natural wine” movement. Wines will be served by a team of passionate, young sommeliers and oenologists.

This year the Oenorama “Wine Revelations” wine bar will also be hosting short presentations by winemakers who will launching special cuvées that deserve further explanations. Wines vinified and aged in amphorae, wines matured in the Aegean and Ionian seas, wines made under special circumstances or representing a major departure from conventional wine-making techniques will be the wine bar stars for about 45′ each. Only six such tastings will take place over the three days of the exhibition, so be sure to stay tuned as we announce the programme.

If, as a foreign visitor, you feel lost with all these wines and wineries, a good place to start your visit, is the Oenorama Tasting Gallery “Discover Greek Wines”.

Once again, Oenorama is setting up the Oenorama Tasting Gallery in which an entire Hall of Zappeion (in the red wing) is arranged in self-pour style for the promotion of Greek wines (Discover Greek Wines ) to Greek and foreign wine professionals. The Tasting Gallery hosts about 250 wines, selected by the show’s winemakers as the most representative of their geographical areas. Wines are placed according to their color, their provenance, their varietal and their vintage, in ideal tasting conditions. Each wine is accompanied by a tasting sheet in both English and Greek).

In this area, there is also an information desk for foreign visitors, the Greek Wine Information Bureau, with a giant map of the wine producing regions of Greece as the backdrop, which enhances the Discover Greek Wines experience

Entry to the Tasting Gallery is controlled and is allowed only to Greek and foreign wine professionals. If you are a consumer and would like to taste the wines presented in the Tasting Gallery, you can buy an extra ticket for 5 euros at the entrance of the exhibition. This allows for a single entry.
