The leader of Greece’s major opposition party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said he was confident that conservative New Democracy will win the next elections. When will these be? Any time now, most probably in the second half of 2018.”
During his visit in Washington these days, the new prime minister of Greece discussed Greek politics, economic growth and his party’s strategy for the country, with Bloomberg TV.
“Elections can take place, any time. From now until the end of Tsipras’s government term that is in September 2019. I do not turn my attention to the time of the elections. I am sure that whenever they take place, New Democracy will prevail. What I am most concerned about is to present to Greek citizens a convincing narrative about the future of the country after the completion of the program, which ends in August 2018. Which means that I should be able to borrow from international markets. And in order to do that we need a convincing narrative on growth. Mr. Tsipras can not offer it. We can,” Mitsotakis said the president of New Democracy said.
He expressed the point of view that prime minister Alexis Tsipras will lead the country to elections in the second half of 2018.
Should elkections be held next Sunday, New Democracy would indeed win.

Mitsotakis has been pushing for elections ever since he assumed the post of ND leadership in January 2016.
Now, he leaves it up to the prime minister.
That’s kind of progress.
PS there are some scenarios on Greek social media claiming “war with Turkey at Easter” which is on April 8th and “elections in May.” I have no idea who is circulating these scenarios, probably the usual conspiracy theorists. As they also claim that the war will be with the purpose to “take Istanbul [Constantinople]back” I suppose we will win the war and there will be no reason to held elections in May beause we will have no time to register the 15 million residents of Istanbul as voters in Greece… *sigh* never a dull moment in Greece *sigh*
