Google honors Greece’s Independence Day and the Greek Revolution of 1821 March with a special doodle, logo. Graphic designers of the company used a pair of the traditional shoes – tsarouchi – and laurel leaves, all framed with the colors of the Greek flag.
Tsarouchi is a type of shoe, which is typically known nowadays as part of the traditional uniform worn by the Evzones of the Greek Presidential Guard, members of which guard also the Monument of Unknown Soldiers in front of the Greek Palriament at Syntagma Square in downtown Athens.
It was part of the uniform of the fighters in the Revolution of 1821.

Greeks celebrate the Revolution of 1821, the start of the war against the 400-year occupation by the Ottoman Empire.
The day is celebrated on March 25th in Greece, Cyprus and by Greeks communities abroad.
