The Austrian President of the Monitoring Committee of the International Football Federation FIFA, Herbert Huebel, has recommended the exclusion of Greek football from international competitions without suspension or grace time, not only for football clubs but also for national teams.
Greek state-run news agency amna, notes that “Huebel was apparently not satisfied with the actions and measures, announced by the chairman of the Greek Football Federation (EPO)” Vangelis Grammenos during a recent meeting between the two.
“The current situation does not allow the EPO to guarantee the smooth running of national competitions,” Huebel said in his report to FIFA.
As “current situation,” Huebel describes the incident with PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis entering the pitch with a gun, the government’s decision to suspend the championship, the long delay in announcing court rulings, and the comments of the Monitoring Committee to the Federation, which were not heard since they were not implemented.
Huebel’s recommendations will be received by the Federation-Members Committee and will be discussed in upcoming May, possibly in June.
“This means there is time to proceed with improvement changes, but in any case time has fallen short for the Greek football,” amna notes.
