Missing Alzheimer’s patient found dead next to dog barking …for help

An elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s and her dog. A loyal soul that did not move from her side for five days. A tiny little dog who kept barking, practically asking for help for his beloved owner.

75-year-old Maria S. went missing on Saturday, April 28th. She took her dog for a walk and never returned.

She was living in Ilioupoli suburb of East Athens, at the foot of Mt Hymettus.

The Greek Service for missing people, Silver Alert, has issued a announcement about the missing woman.

Her body was found in Ano Glyfada (Upper Glyfada) Wednesday noon, when a mountain hiker heard the dog barking. He immediately called the Police.

For the time being, police excludes the possibility of a crime. An autopsy is to determine the exact cause and the time of the woman’s death.

Police suggests, Maria S died of pathological issues.

Alzheimer’s and dementia patients are especially vulnerable and have difficulties to survive hardship once they go missing.

Greek Animal Welfare Society for Strays Protection SPAZ, posted on Facebook that it was called by police to pick up the dog.

The welfare handed the dog over to the police station of Ilioupolis, where the woman’s family was waiting for him.
