40 people arrested in 6 days for trying to leave Greece for EU with forged documents

Police authorities in Herakleio, Crete, have arrested 40 people in the last six days, as they were trying to live Greece for countries of the European Union with forged travel documents.

A total of 29 men and 11 women aged between 18 and 57 are arrested at the airport of Herakleio on the island of Crete.

According to local media, arrested are 16 Afghans, 13 Syrians, 7 Iranians, 2 Algerians, one Palestinian and one Libyan.

Also a Spanish citizens, a 47-year-old woman was arrested for facilitating a 36-year-old Moroccan citizen to leave Greece for Europe with forged travel documents. Prliminary investigation showed that the woman had provided the man with forged travel documents allegedly issued by Spanish authorities. She had accompanied him to Herakleio airport.

All arrested are to be brought to local poprescutor’s office and face charges.
