Ferries docked, flights disrupted as General Strike to paralyze Greece on May 30

Ferries and ships will remain docked and flight schedules will be cancelled or delayed on May 30th 2018 following a call for a general strike by major workers and employees unions. Public and private sector unions umbrellas ADEDY and GSEE have called on a general strike to protest “the continuation of austerity, unemployment and over-taxation policies” as they said on relevant statements.

Public institutions will remain closed.

It is mainly the transport that will be affected as also air traffic controllers will launch a work stoppage.

Who is on strike

Workers at Ferries and Ships on 24h strike.

Air Traffic Controllers on work stoppage from 10:00 a.m. until 01:00 p.m.

Workers at trains, Proastiakos on 24h strike, will affect also Metro transportation to/from Athens Airport. The Metro will operate up to <Doukissis Plakentias> station.

Buses (incl Express Bus to/from Airport) and Trolley buses and Tram in Athens will operate between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Buses and trolley buses will be on 24h strike on May 31st.

Metro and Urban train ISAP workers have not announced so far if they will join the strikes

On 24h strike will be also workers at Greek media.

Protest rallies will start as soon as 10:30 a.m. in Omonia and Klafthmonos squares in downtown Athens and end in front of the Greek Parliament.

  1. We have had a similar idea here in Brazil. Stop ALL trucks from delivering anything (for 9 days so far), including gasoline/ethanol and groceries, mail, supplies to hotels, etc. Let’s see what happens. Maybe you should try that in Greece. Truckers won’t have to block roads because there will be no traffic.

  2. So our holiday got cancelled at 5pm last night. We were due to fly this morning, it’s totally ruined what we’ve worked towards for 6 months and planned for. Our kids are devastated. We can book another holiday but we’ve lost annual leave days and booking last minute means limited choice and at least £500 extra costs. We only get back the price we paid.
