There has been much of a debate in recent years about allowing filming in the Acropolis for commercial purposes. A lot of bureaucratic and tax obstacles as well as fears on damaging the ancient archaeological site have scared away international film productions. It was just in the last months that the Ministry of Culture spoke a word of power in an attempt to attract filming and promote Greece’s beauties to an international audience.
Yet, there are four Hollywood films that were granted permission to film
“Boy on a Dolphin” (1957) starring Sophia Loren and Alan Ladd
“New York Stories” (1989) directed by Martin Scorsese, F.F. Coppola & Woody Allen
“My Life in Ruins” (2009) with Nia Vardalos and Richard Dreyfuss
“the Two Faces of January” (2014) with Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst
