Church bells in Kalavryta to ring in mourning over Macedonia deal

The hardliner Metropolit of Kalavryta and Aigialia,  Amvrosios, has ordered the churches to ring the bells in mourning until Saturday, when Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, and his FYROM counterpart, Zoran Zaef will sign the Macedonia Agreement.

The bells will ring in mourning every morning from 11:00 am to 11:15 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and “on behalf of all those Greeks, the genuine patriots who react to injustice, the foreign custody and the foreign exploitation,” as Metropolit Amvrosios said in a statement posted in his blog.

“This fact [agreement with Skopje] floods our soul with anger and indignation, and I imagine that the same thing happens to the soul of every genuine Greek. Only anger and indignation can dominate our soul,” notes the politically far-right man who is supposed to preach love.

At the same time other “genuine Greeks” call on a protest rally at Syntagma Square at 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 16th, with the slogan “Tsunami is coming over Macedonia.”

Apparently they did not get permission for a big protest rally on Friday and a smaller one in North Greece, by Prespes where the two leader will sign the agreement.

It is not clear who are the organizers of the protests. In their social media account they have the slogan “Macedonia is Greece. History is not to be stolen, concessed or sold.”

Meanwhile in FYROM, President Ivanof said in an address to the nation that “the agreement is humiliating” and that he will not accept it. Ivanof has the power to block the agreement by not signing it and hinder it from be published in the official gazette.
