It was a powerful thunderstorm in Athens on Sunday afternoon and a strong rainfall that caused problems in large parts of the city and in broader areas of Attica Prefecture. Households and businesses experienced short power outages, other broken internet or cable TV connections. A thunder stroke one signal transmitter of state broadcaster ERT triggering anger among the many Mundial fans.
But the usual problem was flooded streets
the Fire Service has to rescue a woman whose vehicle was trapped in the water rushing on one main roads of Aspropyrgos village west of Athens. Another driver in the same area managed to safely get off his car alone.
Problems with flooded roads occurred also in the suburbs of Egaleo, Haidari and Keratsini in West Piraeus.
Police had to temporary close the Egaleo traffic ring on both directions from Attiki Odos motorway to Aspropyrgos refineries due to the heavy rainfall.
Barometric low “Minoas” has been sweeping across Greece since Friday and is expecting bring more rain and thunderstorms next week.
