Conservative New Democracy expelled from the party, Konstantinos Michalos, the President of the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Athens. In fast track procedures, the Ethics Committee of ND expelled Michalos who had refused to appear at the disciplinary meeting of the committee.
Citing ND officials, media report the President of CICA was expelled basically for not supporting the party line on current major issues. they accused him of “serving a personal agenda.”
Michalos has been against “snap elections” something that New Democracy demands wherever it stands and sits and sees an open microphone. the CICA President was reportedly also supporting the Macedonia Agreement between Greece and FYROM, while ND has repeatedly said it would down vote it.
“It should be absolutely clear that the term Macedonia as a designation of origin and geographical indication belongs exclusively to Greece, while our neighbors will be able to use their new name, namely Northern Macedonia,” Michalos said in a recent interview with state broadcaster ERT.
In a statement, Kosntantinos Michalos, described the ND decision as “unconvinced” and “undemocratic decision that demonstrates that Mr Mitsotakis leads ND to a deep introversion.
Stressing that he was member of ND “ex officio” due to his position and that he was always a supporter of “social liberalism,” Michalos said among others that he was criticized by ND – apart for the reasons mentioned above – also for his positive statements regarding the third review of the Greek program and the exit of the bailout agreements.
It looks as if the hell has broken out in ND with centre-right party officials to sharply criticize Mitsotakis for his decision, and accuse him of turning the party more and more to towards to far-right.
