Streets were turned into rivers and motorists were trapped in their vehicles when a strong summer rainstorm hit Athens and Piraeus on Sunday afternoon. Within minutes, the usual ‘suspects’ some main roads like Pireos Aevenue were flooded and closed to traffic.
Most problems were recorded in Menidi and Keratsini in West Attica and Pireaus but also in Glyfada with firemen to rush helping the motorists.
Power outages occurred in several suburbs, and the Fire Service had to rescue citizens from elevators in Perama, Athens and Keratsini.

The Fire Service had received at least 30 calls for pumping waters.
Rainstorm in time lapse in Rafina, East Attica
Roads in and around Manda in West Attica, in the area that was hit by flash-floods in November 2017, were flooding again and were closed to traffic.
The old national road Elefsina -Thives at the height of Mandra was closed to traffic due to flooding but also the national highway, lane to Athens at Elefsina toll station. Traffic was restored around 9:30 pm Sunday.
