Athens Metro workers to launch 6h work stoppage on July 12

Workers at Athens Metro will launch a 6-hout work stoppage on Thursday, July 12th 2018. The work stoppage will affect Metro lines <2> and <3> including the one to/from the Athens Airport.

The work stoppage is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.

Reason for the work stoppage of a public transport means that offers service to thousands of Athenians every day it that the workers can participate in the meeting of the union general assembly.

Workers protest lack of spear parts, personnel shortages and other issues of the sector.

The general assembly will discuss and decided a 24-hour strike, the union said in a statement.

On its part the Transport Ministry has warned them with legal measures should they proceed with a 24-hour strike.

  1. Have any of these two-bit one day strikes had any effect at all on the economy or government? They should do AT LEAST what they did in Brazil: All trucks and trains should just stop all deliveries of EVERYTHING (except medicines) for 10 days and block all major highways. No deliveries of food to grocery stores and restaurants, gasoline to gas stations, cooking gas, construction materials, clothes, water, electrical and cleaning materials, nothing! Maybe that might make the government wake up a little. Or maybe not!
