An extremely high number of lightning, that is more than 22,000 fell in the Ionian Sea and the mainland of West Greece on a single day.
According to ZEUS system of Greece’s National Observatory the extremely high number of lightnings fell in the early morning hours until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 16 2018.
The lightning was accompanied with strong rainfalls of short duration.
In Preveza, West Epirus, roads turned into rivers and the Fire Service had to pump water from flooded homes and business places.
There were power outages.
