Twenty people lost their lives in 363 road accidents alone in the Prefecture of Attica only in the month of August, traffic police said on Wednesday.
In the same month, 425 people were injured, 13 of them.
The main causes of these accidents was a failure to drive with due caution, violation of traffic signs and signals and violation of traffic rules by pedestrians.
During that time, the Greek traffic police issued 15,115 tickets for various violations of traffic rules, including 373 tickets for driving under the influence of alcohol.
2,593 tickets were issued for exceeding the speed limit, 262 for not stopping at running red traffic lights, 250 for using a mobile phone while driving, 319 for not wearing a seat belt and 1,068 for not wearing helmets on motorcycles.
PS I don;t want to know the traffic police data across Greece in August, in the peak of summer vacations. Disregarding traffic rules is sadly a national hobby here.
