Maria Menounos could not but have a big fat Greek wedding. In her father’s birth place Akovos, Maria and her husband Keven Undergaro sealed their holy bond in a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
“I wanted the religious wedding to take place here in order to honor Greece,” Menounos told Greek media and invited everyone to be part of one of the happiest days in her life.
The TV host, Emmy Awards winning journalist and cancer survivor could not but celebrate the big event in a typical Greek style what is accustomed in a village.
Maria and Keven arrived at the village on Wednesday to check with the last details.
However, they made a short trip to Athens on Thursday, two days before the big day, for a pre-wedding party.
Present at the wedding are not only relatives and friends but all residents of the village in Arkadia, Central Peloponnese. And a lot of reporters.
For days, the locals of Akavos have been involved in the preparations, sweeping yards and streets, painting walls and putting new flowers in the gardens.
Women of the village have been cooking for days so that the many guests will enjoy local specialties before the wedding.everything is ready on time on Saturday.
“She will eat chicken, meat and salad,” her father Kostas told state broadcaster ERT TV on Friday. And then he revealed that Maria loves cheese pies.
“Marina wanted to go to the church on a donkey,” but we had to change plans due to the volume of the wedding dress,” father Kostas said. adding that Maria will go to the church in a horse carriage.
The wedding menu for the 200 guests is typical “Greek style family menu for a wedding.
Next to traditional dishes like home-made pasta, cheese pie and stuffed cabbage, the menu is elevated with black boar, moussaka with sausage and smoked aubergine.
A catering company reportedly brought all things Greek wedding menu with four trucks from Athens.
Lemons and miniature lemon trees decorate the wedding tables.
Musicians from the area are invited to play until the couple and the gusts can dance no more.
While the bride was getting ready for the church, the festivities had already began in her parents’ home and in the village.
Speaking to reporters, Keven swore that he did not see the bride and the dress before the ceremony in order to keep step with the traditions.
