Unknown perpetrators attack Canadian Embassy in Athens

Unknown perpetrators attacked the Canadian Embassy in Athens with sledgehammers and paint early Sunday morning.

A group of some 10 people who were wearing hoods broke glass windows with sledgehammers, hurled black and red paint and fled. They left behind two sledgehammers.

The attack took place at 6:10 a.m.

According to media, a man was detained but was released short time after.

The Canadian Embassy located in Halandri suburb of northern Athens is being reportedly guarded by a private security company.

The security guard reportedly told police that he got scared, he didn’t come out to react and did not see in which direction the perpetrators flea.

Sunday noon, anarchists’ group Rouvikonas claimed responsibility for the attack ‘for the support the Canadian state offer to Eldorado Gold” mining company.

The Greek Foreign Ministry condemend the attack and said it will not harm the relations between the two countries.
