The last victim of Mediterranean hurricane “Zorbas” was found 23 days after went missing in the floods on September 29, 2018. The body of the 58-year-old woman found by a local near Krya Vrisi in Northern Evia on October 22. The body was covered with dry grass and soil and was in severe decomposition.
One of her daughters could only identify the pants her mother was wearing. The results of a DNA analysis came out today (Oct 25) and confirmed the woman’s identity.
On the night medicane “Zorbas” hit North Evia on September 29, the woman and her husband were driving from Mantoudi to another village in order help an elderly relative whose home was flooded.
The couple never reached their destination. Their car was swept away.
Four days later, the couple’s car was found on a field and when the waters withdrew.
The body of the 67-year-old husband was found at a beach of North Evia five days after the floods. Also in his case a DNA test was necessary to confirm the bitter truth to his children.
Four people lost their lives in Medicane Zorbas. In addition to the couple, a shepherd was killed on the mountains of Volos. A retired policeman suffered a heart attack when his car was trapped in the floods in East Peloponnese.
