Number of registered unemployed in Greece increased by 2% in Jan

The number of unemployed in Greece increased by 2% in January 2019. It should be noted that in the same month the increase of the minimum wage was introduced.

One in two registered unemployed (486,019 persons, 50.76%) are on the lists of the Greek Manpower Employment Organization OAED for a period equal to or more than 12 months and 471.516 (49.24%) are registered in the organization’s register for a period shorter than 12 months

According to data released by OAED for January, the total number of registered unemployed in with a ‘labor search’ criterion, amounted to 957,532 persons from 935,449 persons in December 2018 (an increase of 22,083 persons).

One in two registered unemployed (486,019 persons, 50.76%) are on the OAED lists for a period equal to or more than 12 months and 471.516 (49.24%) are registered in the organization’s register for a period shorter than 12 months.

In terms of gender, men are 364,801 (38,10%) and women 592,731 (61,90%).

The total number of other non-jobseekers for January 2019 amounted to 169,557 people, compared to 181,367 in December 2018. That is, the number decreased by 11,810 (-6.51%).

Of these, 54,880 (32.37%) are registered in the OAED record for a period equal to or more than 12 months and 114,677 (67.63%) are registered in the OAED register for less than 12 months. Men are 62,666 (36.96%) and women are 106.891 (63.04%).
