Greece’s Beau, actor Phaedon Georgitsis dies at the age of 80

One of the most attractive men on the Greek film screen: actor Phaedon Georgitsis died at the age of 80 after a long battle against cancer.

He starred in more than 40 films, dramas as well as comedies. 13 of the films where he head a leading role were produced by the country’s biggest production company the Finos Film.

One of his first roles was in “Never On Sunday” (1960). He was one of the several sailors seeking for the favor of prostitute Ilya (Melina Merkouri).

He is remembered as a very polite and modest man.

Wide boy Georgitsis sacrifices his mustache to win the love of the woman he loves in “The Blue Beads” (1967).

In his late years, he had established a small regional theater group together with his wife.

He played together with the most beautiful actresses in Greece.

Phaedon Georgitsis charmed millions of Greek women with his wonderful blue eyes. He was known as the Greek James Dean.

Despite a long and brave fight he could not charm cancer.

He is survived by his wife and their two children.
