Tsakalotos on IMF candidacy: “My hands are tied”

Former finance minister and high-ranking member of left-wing SYRIZa, Euclid Tsakalotos, commented on media reports that his name was on the list of those to potentially replace Christine Lagarde as Managing Director at the International Monetary Fund.

In a post on Facebook, Tsakalotos wrote that he had to consult the special body of the “53” fraction inside SYRIZA:

“I was late to respond to CNBC news because I had to consult a special body of 53. By a vote 6-3 I was told that I should reject a possible call for the specific post. Six have argued that the IMF is not yet sufficiently rooted at the side of the left-wing movement, while the three have said that, potentially, the IMF could be an ally of any progressive alliance. Therefore, my hands are tied.”

Tsakalotos is known for his phlegmatic humor and his “official” response to unofficial IMF candidates list is epic.
